OHT HealthTech Students' Careers Fair

One HealthTech is a grassroots, volunteer-led, global community that champions diversity and inclusion in healthtech and students have always been a part of our community. Now in 2021 we will see the launch of our dedicated Student Hub!

Our first (of hopefully many) events is our Careers Fair! We're delighted to say we are hosting this event in partnership with some other Medtech Societies including: King's College London Medtech Society and Warwick Surgical Medtech Society.

This event is open to all and any students who have an interest in HealthtTech or would like to know more about it. It will provide an overview of the industry and the various types of jobs that exist within it.

Speaker Bios 

Sophie Valentine - Clinical Product Manager at Huma Therapeutics - @NeuroTechLDN

Sophie is a clinical product manager at HealthTech start-up Huma Therapeutics and has a background in cognitive neuroscience research. She creates digital solutions for remote health management with a focus on innovation & AI, evidence generation and user-centric design. Her interests lie in mental wellness, brain health, FemTech and promoting diversity. Sophie also leads the London Chapter of NeuroTechX, where she works to build London's neurotechnology community.

Aidan Peppin - Senior Researcher at Ada Lovelace Institute - @aidanpeppin

Aidan is a Senior Researcher at the Ada Lovelace Institute, an independent research and deliberative body with a mission to ensure data and AI work for people and society. He leads on public engagement projects, convening a diverse range of voices to understand and address the societal impacts of technology across a range of sectors: from health and biometrics to data governance. Previously, Aidan worked at Wellcome on social and ethical issues of AI and data in health, including working with Understanding Patient Data and the Data for Science and Health priority area. His background is in humanities and social science with a focus on relationships between technology, culture and society.

Dr Rohini Mathur - Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine - @Ladyroho

Dr Rohini Mathur an epidemiologist specializing in the use of large real-world databases to examine health inequalities. She completed an undergraduate degree in public health at the University of Waterloo in Canada, followed by an MSc at LSHTM in reproductive and sexual health. From 2011-2015 she completed an ESRC funded PhD at LSHTM investigating how electronic health records can be best used to examine ethnic inequalities in health outcomes in the UK at LSHTM. She is currently completing a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Wellcome Trust to examine ethnic inequalities in the care and outcomes of type 2 diabetes, and is a member of the OpenSAFELY collaborative working on a range of COVID-19 related projects.

Ayesha Rahim - Chief Clinical Information Officer, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust - @AyeshaRahimCCIO

Dr Ayesha Rahim is a Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist, Deputy Medical Director, and Chief Clinical Information Officer. She has worked in the NHS since 2003, and is the clinical lead for digital transformation in her organisation. Her specific interests are around clinical engagement in this arena, as well as equality, diversity and inclusion. She is a founding member of the Shuri network, which is a grass-roots organisation to support the visibility and participation of BAME women in the digital health space. 

Gerard Hawkins - Head of Innovation (UK and Ireland) at Roche Diagnostics - @GerardHarkin

Gerard is the Head of Innovation at Roche Diagnostics in the UK and Ireland. He is interested in diagnostics, digital health, innovation culture, and diversity and inclusion. It feels like a blink of an eye since he started his career in 1992 which spans various sectors. It’s no surprise though that he landed in healthcare where he feels at home. Since a young age, he has always liked helping people. Working in healthcare enables you to make a real impact on people’s lives. He lives in central Brighton surrounded by great coffee.

Jenney Shi - Design Lead at Kry 

Jenney is a product designer specialising in HealthTech. She has worked on digital products ranging from improving elderly care, behaviour intervention and diabetes prevention. She is currently at Kry/Livi as a design lead in the clinician area, designing EMR tools for clinicians.
