This year’s Rewired 2025 conference was nothing short of inspiring, bringing together key players from healthcare and technology. Our very own One HealthTech superheroes – Angela, Fiona, Sarah, Jude, and Bernie – were there to soak up the knowledge, network with old friends, and reflect on the exciting future of digital health. Here are their key takeaways that are sure to spark your imagination!

Bernie: The NHS Digital Community Is Unbeatable

For Bernie, Rewired was a heartwarming reminder of just how incredible the NHS digital community truly is. Despite some initial panic when losing her phone on day one (don’t worry, it was found!), Bernie reflects on how special the healthcare tech community is.

"Our community really is the best," Bernie shares. "Rewired 2025 was an uplifting two days spent with brilliant people doing amazing things. It reaffirmed the power of One HealthTech – bringing together individuals of all backgrounds, positions, and genders."

It’s not just about the tech. It’s about the people who come together to make a difference, creating an atmosphere of support and collaboration that Bernie believes is unmatched anywhere else.

Angela: Collaboration Is the Future of HealthTech

AI continues to dominate the discussions at conferences like Rewired, but for Angela, the buzzword wasn’t just about technology – it was about collaboration.

"As I walked through the event, the word I used most, and heard most often, was collaboration," Angela reflects. "Healthtech is a tough space right now, especially with the organisational chaos at NHSE and ICB levels, and innovators trying to make their mark. Decision-makers have so little bandwidth and headspace to focus on the future. That's why working together, collaborating and presenting a joined-up solution I think is crucial and will help the system while it's in turmoil and change."

Angela was also thrilled to reconnect with old friends from the One HealthTech community, making Rewired feel like a reunion. "It was wonderful to reunite with the people who’ve been instrumental in building this community," she adds, industry stars like John Farringdon, Phillipa Winter, Scott Andrew, Lauren Bevan, Ele Harwich and Jess Morley.

Jude: AI and Data Are Changing Healthcare – But We Need to Be Careful

Jude had a packed schedule during Rewired 2025, especially in the AI & Data Hall, where she was captivated by powerful discussions on the future of health data. After securing a front-row seat, she attended two standout sessions that gave crucial insights into the ethical integration of AI into patient pathways.

"One of the key takeaways for me was hearing Nicola Byrne from The National Data Guardian and Ming Tang from NHSE talk about how we need to ensure AI is ethically integrated into healthcare," Jude explains. "We need to focus on combining primary, secondary, and community data to create truly patient-centred digital experiences."

Her biggest insight came from a session on Population Health, where Jessica Rose Morley emphasized the untapped potential of AI. "AI’s power for individual diagnosis is impressive, but its true potential lies in improving population health. It’s about making the healthcare system smarter, more proactive, and more connected," Jude says, leaving the conference even more energized by the potential of AI to transform healthcare.

Sarah: Optimism, AI, and the Need for Better Fundamentals

Sarah’s key takeaway from Rewired was an overwhelming sense of optimism. Despite the challenging few weeks that NHS digital teams have faced, there was a clear message of collaboration and hope at Rewired 2025.

"After everything the NHS and suppliers have been through, people might have expected a gloomy atmosphere, but it was the complete opposite," Sarah notes. "There was an undeniable sense of optimism. The NHS is calling for help, collaboration, and a bit of patience – we’re all in this together."

While AI is still the buzzword of the moment, Sarah reminds us that there’s still work to be done in getting the basics right. "It’s exciting to see the real-world applications of AI, but we can’t forget the fundamentals like infrastructure and electronic patient records. These are the foundations that will enable AI and machine learning to thrive across the NHS," she adds, underscoring the importance of building strong systems for the future.

Fiona: Innovation, Collaboration, and the Future of Healthcare

Fiona walked away from Rewired 2025 with a renewed sense of purpose. "Collaboration and innovation were the themes that stood out most for me," she says. "Rewired brought together incredible minds focused on one thing: driving change and improving digital healthcare."

One of Fiona’s highlights was the Digital Collaboration in Practice session, where Debbie Loke, Andy Callow, and Iain O’Neil shared their vision for a more unified digital healthcare system. "It was inspiring to see how breaking down silos and focusing on shared goals could lead to real transformation," Fiona reflects.

She also found herself captivated by the closing session with Sir Bruce Keogh and Sir Stephen Powis, who reflected on the evolution of the health innovation landscape. One of the standout moments for Fiona was learning about Nettle, a non-invasive wearable designed to help people with chronic conditions like endometriosis. "Seeing innovations like Nettle reminds me why events like Rewired are so important," Fiona shares. "They give us a platform to showcase technologies that can truly make a difference in people’s lives."

The Future Is Bright

From collaboration and AI to ethical data use and innovative wearables, our One HealthTech superheroes took away a wealth of inspiration from Rewired 2025. But above all, the message was clear: the future of healthcare lies in collaboration, innovation, and working together to make meaningful, patient-centred change.

As Angela said, “Working together will help us navigate the current chaos in the system and build a brighter, more connected future for healthcare.” And with superheroes like these leading the charge, we have every reason to be excited about what’s ahead.
